  • How do induction ranges work?

Induction stoves work fast thanks to a metal coil under the cooktop that generates a magnetic field. This field interacts with ferromagnetic materials in the cookware, creating an excited current in the cookware, thereby releasing energy as heat.
  • Induction stoves provide faster heat, precise temperature control and safer cooking surfaces. Because heat is transferred directly to the cookware, very little energy is wasted, making it one of the most energy-efficient stove options available. Cleanup is also easy since spills don’t burn onto the glass surface.

Most induction ranges also feature convection ovens that circulate hot air for even baking. Learn more about the difference between convection and conventional ovens in our Convection vs. Conventional Oven Buying Guide .
  • Electric ranges use metal coils that sit below the cooktop to create radiant heat. The heat directly warms the surface in the cooking zone, heating cookware placed on top of the burner.

Induction cooktops are electric as well, but they use copper coils to create a magnetic field, which directly transfers heat to the cookware itself with very little energy loss.

For a comparison of ranges, stoves and ovens, explore our Range vs. Stove vs. Oven Buying Guide .
  • Gas ranges are still a popular choice among consumers. But induction ranges can transfer heat directly to cookware, making them more efficient than gas ranges. They excel at faster cook times.
  • To clean an induction stovetop, you should first allow the surface to cool. Use a ceramic glass cleaning solution and a damp cloth after each use. For a deeper clean, use a cleaning kit, scraper and non-abrasive pad.

Visit our Samsung Support page for more information on cleaning an electric induction stove.
  • An induction cooktop (stovetop) is a flat, glass-surface stove that uses magnetic energy to heat compatible cookware directly. The induction burners have defined circles for pots and pans, but unlike a traditional radiant electric cooktop, the circles stay relatively cool to the touch while in use.
  • As long as the cookware has a magnetic base, it will be compatible. Ferrous metals such as stainless steel and cast iron are suitable. Visit the Induction Cooktop Offers page to find great deals on cookware sets.
  • Since very little heat is lost in induction cooking process, induction stoves heat more quickly and efficiently than gas or traditional radiant electric.
  • Ensure that you have a dedicated, properly grounded 220/240-volt branch circuit, protected by a 40-amp or larger circuit breaker. Accessories required (only included with ‘Delivery + Installation’ service) are a 3-conductor or a 4-conductor UL-listed range cord rated at 40 amp with 125/250 minimum volt range. A 40 amp range cord is recommended but a 50 amp range cord can be used if it is marked for use with nominal 1 3/8” diameter connection openings
